today shaun finally understands the reason why people play some games.

basic idea: you'd play a game for hours just so that you can dig that tiny but oh-so-significant bit of dust on your super-innocent friend that will keep everyone laughing for a minute or so. yep. work for an hr to find out one tiny blackmail-able piece of info. ;D

another reason to play such games: random conversations.

friend: i really dont understand the reason behind --

me: shemales.

friend: boobjobs. i was actually gonna say boobjobs.

but some comments are just so depressing!

"you're the only male friend that i have that's actually heavier than me!"

"erhh. ok lah. haha"

two observations:

1. i realised that girls' voices change after puberty. listen to a group of 18 year old girls talking, then listen to a group of 28 year old girls talking, then listen to a group of 38 year old girls talking. notice how they tend to start sounding more mature and lower pitched as age goes up?

eugene and i were thinking, it could be a few things affecting this. for instance, parenthood or job. bosses tend to sound more mature than underlings, and parents would have a mature streak as well.

i noticed this when shane's boss was talking to him today. apparently she was speaking to him and i realised how much she sounded like just a jc student, pitch- and tone-wise. apparently she's been working as a kindergarten teacher for a year or so. earlier observation of another boss showed that she had a similar high-pitched girly voice, and this officer has been in service for just a year, newly graduated before that.

but there are exceptions to this rule. basic idea is that its been observed that younger girls tend to sound more cutesy than matured ladies who have lower voices. you wont usually hear a group of aunties sounding all squeaky and cute like a bunch of teens or even early-20-agers. so yeah, listen for yourself, and really wonder why.

2. i realised that i like bands that have a personality.

nowadays we have so many bands like simple plan, the click 5, boys like girls, faber drive etc that are all like. boybands. believing in love, singing about recently breaking up with a girl and wanting her back and not being able to live without her, or about cheating girlfriends, or about chasing a girl that doesnt seem to want him.

i mean like, move on! there's so many of you nowadays that its so sickening. even if the music is good, the theme is so repetitive that i get bored quickly. for instance, i already almost puke at the sound of simple plan or the click five. faber drive is fairly new to me, so i'm fine with that, and together with boys like girls, their music is fairly unique so i dont get bored of them. but i get so bored of the others since they're like, the same.

on the other hand, i never get sick of mcr and fob. mcr has this 'i'm doomed, love me before i die' or 'i'll kill you then kill myself' kind of sound while fob has egoistic and sarcastic tones that sound like 'you cheated on me, but the joke's on you so just go kill yourself while i enjoy myself watching'.

i guess that's really personality. i hardly see bands that have the sickeningly mcp ego of fob that seems stylish the way the put it across, or the so-doomed outlook of mcr (actually i think there are brit bands that do that too, but they're waaaaay too emo for my liking. hahaha).

so yeah, its really stupid, but with this kind of appreciation i can only listen to most songs for a short while before i get really sick of them. then my playlist becomes really short. *shrugs*

somehow i realised that i enjoy yellowcard, but they never appeared in that monologue. i wonder why =x

boo! before shauns claims back his blog ownership, lets wreck this place! XDD hahaha. kidding~~~~ im nice, so i wont wreck it, but i'll leave some mess behind for him to clear up...

hahaha. well, or who knows what happened here since he's gone.. the likes of such...? haha. i shall be nice. ehh wait. which reminds me, that day i was googling for random death note pictures, i came across this one..

hehhh. the picture is supposed to be from the death note manga, but apparently, they changed the words in the bubble. bleahh. hahaha. hentai stuff suits shaun? who thinks so please breaaathe~ XD

alright, enough laming. shall leave his great 南翔小笼包 experience for him to share. ps: it must be bought from 城隍庙 then nice. the super long queue de. haha~

alrightyy. im gone. over & out.

Friday, December 12

yozzie. im here to churn some waters. haha. well now, apparently tonight is shaun's last night in china this year, & he decided to turn in early. he's flying back to hot stuffy sauna-like singapore tomorrow. yipee! he'll be suffering the same fate (bad weather) as everyone & anyone in singapore now~~ hee. im nice!! ^^ hahaha. anyway, i'd forgotten to add yesterday that someone with all the luck, is staying in holiday inn, a 4 star hotel. haha. some lucky chap he is. but it seems as if there's two holiday inns in shanghai. one holiday inn vista & one holiday inn. one at puxi & one at pudong. im not sure which is at where, & i dunno which one hes staying at.. haha.

yupps. so he went shopping at shanghai's tao bao cheng (淘宝城), which is at nanjing road west (i havent been there before). haha. but apparently, it has some of the stalls which shifted out of xiangyang market (襄阳路市场). so now there (taobao cheng) and the mall beneath the science & technology museum (beside the sci & tech mrt). =) there they sell all the counterfeit branded goods at cheap price, but must remember to bargain. ^^ so apparently, 淘宝网 (www.taobao.com) has some investments in that shopping mall, hence its named taobao cheng. haha. well, counterfeit branded stuff there are mainly A货. [for noobs: A货 are counterfeit stuff to the utmost quality, but still counterfeit) of course, real branded stuff got lahh, but are 水货. [noobs please note: 水货 are REAL branded goods, but are smuggled in. i.e., without tax being paid. so these are more ex than the counterfeits, but cheaper than those taxed goods you see in major departmental stores.] haha. but unfortunately for shaun, he said he didnt buy anything (much) as he didnt see anything he liked. tsktsk, picky picky. hahaha!

oh yes, & he had great fun camwhoring in madam tussards wax museum. heeee~ typical shaun. bet he posed with ALL the female wax figurines,especially the cute females famous people. XD apparently, he said that his parents think that he looks like louis khoo's (古天乐)wax figurine. haha. but louis khoo is cute & got dimples!! shaun isnt & doesnt have dimples, so how can they look alike?? hahaha. kidding shaun! you are cute anyway (& yes i still want the picture u said u took. XDD) hee~ ^^;

hmm, i guess his flight back to singapore will be in the afternoon & so he'll be reaching here in the evening/night. haha. i dunno where they'll be going in the morning. checking out of hotel & ...? maybe go do a little bit more sight seeing? haha. dunno. anyway, i shall wish him safe flight back to singapore! then he can tell us more about his holidays~~ so this shall be my last post here before shaun takes over his blog & mans the show again. ^^ hope y'all gained some new knowledge! haha.

Thursday, December 11

hellos, here i am again. there werent any news from the blog owner yesterday, but there's plenty today! ^^ from what i hear, there's another cold front moving in. but apart from that, he's enjoying himself tremendously in shanghai now~ haha. if the weather gets any colder, are we to expect a buttless shaun when he returns? (i.e., shaun who got his ass frozen off.) haha.

10th dec (i forgot number what-th day)-shaun, etc. was in wuxi after nanjing. haha. i know that there's the famous taihu lake in wuxi~ & surely plenty of nice & beautiful gardens built by the rich people in the olden days. but i never been there before, so dunno how its like & cant comment much =( but i heard that there are plenty of pretty girls in wuxi too! like the old chinese story that 东施 copy 西施 thingie? haha. 西施 is a wuxi girl. hahaha. i wonder if shaun ho has the luck to see any~ ;D okok. any shouldnt be a problem. lets just be contented wondering if he has the luck to see PLENTY instead. haha ^.^
wuxi

a slight intro-
Wuxi (simplified Chinese: 无锡) is an old city in Jiangsu province, People's Republic of China. Split into halves by Lake Taihu, Wuxi borders Changzhou to the west and Suzhou to the east. The northern half looks across to Taizhou to the north over the Yangtze River, while the southern half also borders the province of Zhejiang to the south. Because of its recent development, Wuxi has been dubbed the "little Shanghai".

heh, if u wanna be anal, wuxi literally means without tin. -.- anyway, it seems like everything also wants to have some kinda link to shanghai. >.> oh wells. shanghai IS nice. im sorry if anyone thinks otherwise. haha. but anyway, here are some of his updates for today~

11th dec [(n+1)th day]- haha. after lunch, shaun & etc bus-ed (i think) to shanghai finally! wheee~ there's plenty to sight-see in such a big city~ not to boast, shanghai's area (including ulu places) is TEN TIMES that of singapore's (including ulu places as well). ^^ haha. the whole of 浦东新区 is already bigger than singapore. bleahhhh. =pPp

ANYWAY, back from side-tracking. haha. shaunie went up to the jin mao tower (金茂大厦), the 88th storey building that WAS the tallest before the shanghai world financial centre (上海环球金融中心) was completed this year. the highest observation deck on the SWFC has glass floors. XD cool right. [i wanna go! but i havent been there yet =x] hahaha. anyway, the taller building on the left is the newly completed world financial centre that stands 492m (including the roof). haha. it surpasses the jin mao tower, which is 370m tall (including the antenna AND roof). yupps. so the tour guide brought them to the 2nd tallest building in shanghai. tall enough. haha.

but let me 顺便 intro the other taller architecture structure there. its the oriental pearl tv tower (东方明珠塔), that used to be the tallest until jin mao tower was built. its 468m in height (including the antenna). & if i didnt remember wrongly, the price of the ticket to go up to the highest observation deck is ¥180. haha. mostly they'll bring u up to the 2nd highest deck & that's all i guess. i dunno if shaun's gonna go up there, since he went jin mao already.

so next up, he went to the shanghai’s ocean aquarium park (in pudong). ahem. i must state here that it is better and bigger than singapore's underwater world, as it is one of asia's biggest. haha. it has 5 levels is divided into 8 zones with 34 large themed exhibition areas. yupps.

it features the longest underwater viewing tunnel at 155m. its really damn long. i've been there 2 years ago, when it was still building some exhibits. haha. but i found it damn nice already~ the ticket is ex lahh.. ¥110 per person, but its damn worth it. haha. then again, if you 舍不得 money & dont go this, dont go that if u go shanghai, what's the point? haha.

anyway, from shaun himself: "there was a seal that was flirting with me inside. damn cute ;D anw, remind me to tell you abt the seal when i get back! damn cute ;D" hahaha. must be the cute female seal spotted a shuai guy behind/beside him, then he mistook it for flirting with him. XDD haha, kiddin`` hope you took pics, shaun!

yeapps. & the man himself (mr shaun ho) was onboard a cruise on huangpu jiang (黄浦江). its a 97km long river that flows through shanghai and into the yangtze river mouth. the scene from the river is very beautiful. you can see both pudong (浦东) & puxi (浦西) as the cruise moves along. =)

hmm, as they went at night, here's a night scene. the views from both east & west is different. the feeling's differnt too~ haha.

& erh, so far from what i know, they'll be going shopping tomorrow. most probably at nanjing road (南京路步行街), which is one of the main shopping streets in shanghai, and one of the world's busiest. haha.

the shopping district is actually on nanjing road (east) (南京东路), and it extends to the bund (wai tan-外滩), which they most probably will visit tomorrow as well.

yupps, hahaa. of course, not forgetting that they're gonna visit the shanghai madame tussauds wax museum. its situated on the nanjing road. =) well, if you just go in & see, its not much point. the main point of this museum is to waste time & take loads of photos. then u'll get its worth. haha. i've been there two years ago. the wax figurines are really quite life like. so.. by now there'll be more NEW wax figurines ^^ haha.

this is a pic that i took of the wax statue of the late princess diana. it looks alike, but somehow the feel isnt there for this one. some are better though. haha. we'll hear from shaun when he returns. ^^ im sure he has more to share~~

phew, this is a longgg one. >.> i think i'll run out of things to write tomorrow. >.<
hahaha. oh wells. lets just see how then.

Tuesday, December 9

hellos again! i've just got a new update from the blog owner himself, saying that he just left lunch & he visited the xihu longjing tea plantation. haha. &&&, now hes up on a 4 hours' bus ride to nanjing. & then shopping, with an addition "muahahaha ;D" behind. haha. apparently, he didnt go the pagoda of 6 harmonies, neither did he visit ling yin temple. oh wells.

5th day (9th dec)- shaun ho embarked on a long tedious 4 hour bus journey to nanjing. haha. it is a very historical place as not only did it serve as capital of china for plenty of dynasties, the notorious nanjing massacre also happened there. (like duh cause of the name) other than these, the tomb of sun zhongshan is there also. well, its not exactly a tomb only. its like.. this mini temple thingie that's built on a hill. then.. there's a xuanwu lake there. haha. jiming temple is another wellknown temple. the historical/ancient stuff there is really alot alot alot. haha.

its interesting lahh. there's a 南京路步行街 in shanghai; while in nanjing, there's a 狮子桥步行街. haha.

a little info on nanjing from wiki:
Nanjing (Chinese: 南京) is the capital of China's Jiangsu Province, and a city with a prominent place in Chinese history and culture. Nanjing (literally: 'Southern capital') served as the capital of China during several historical periods, including as the former capital city of Republic of China, and is listed as one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China. Nanjing is also one of the fifteen sub-provincial cities in the People's Republic of China's administrative structure, enjoying jurisdictional and economic autonomy only slightly less than that of a province.
Located in the lower Yangtze River drainage basin and Yangtze River Delta economic zone, Nanjing has always been one of China's most important cities. Apart from having been the capital of China for six dynasties and of the Republic of China, Nanjing has also served as a national hub of education, research, transportation and tourism throughout history. With an urban population of over five million, it is also the second largest commercial center in the East China region, after Shanghai.

its interesting that shaun seems to be kinda metro, but he doesnt know whats H&M. haha.

anyway, i think shaun enjoys shopping more than sight seeing? or rather, he looks forward to it more. XDD let all hope that he knows how to bargain & not get a big hole in his pocket when he returns. haha. that's all for today folks! come back tomorrow for more!!

Monday, December 8

arghs. my house is like a damned battle field after coming back from shanghai, having brought back loads of food stuff & some new clothes (ahem, mainly MINE. muahaha.) & there's the winter clothes to wait to sun (with this darn rainy weather). oh wells.

and hellos there. its moi honour to guest blog for mr shaun ho. haha. no deal struck there, no money involved. my honour. haha.since shaun didnt reveal much information about his trip, i shall be nosy & tell ya guys & gals out there more about his 9days china trip.

at first i thought he'll only be going shanghai, but then again, how come 9 days?! siao. tour agencies wont let u spend 9 days there. hahaha. if u go there by yourself, i'll be your free tour guide & u can spend 9 days there. shopping & sight seeing, no problem. but with a guided tour by the agencies (whichever they are), i think at most you'll be spending 5 days? haha. so i found out that he's on a 9 days jiangnan (江南) tour. hmm, there are some variation to the places each tour agency offer, so i have no idea where he'll be going each day. so let's all wait & see. =)

so here's some places that shaun & family went to.

1st day (5th dec)- shaun ho & family, etc. landed in shanghai pudong international airport rather late. being shaun, he didnt heed any advice to bring more clothes. the ground temperature that day was 0 to 9 deg celcius. haha. he said that he'll be buttless by the time he returns to singapore, i.e., got his butt frozen off. haha.
here's a picture of shanghai.

a short intro on shanghai koped from wiki:
Shanghai (Chinese: 上海) is the largest city in China in terms of population and one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world, with over 20 million people in its extended metropolitan area. Located on China's central eastern coast near the mouth of the Yangtze River, the city is administered as a municipality with province-level status.
[fyi, province-level status means that shanghai is a city state administered by its own mayor. its not a province of any state/region. haha.]

2nd day (6th dec)- shaun & family travelled to suzhou. (my guess is via a bus. perhaps around 2 to 3 hours?) the temperature of suzhou is slightly higher than shanghai, hence i think shaun will be keeping his butt. haha. it is one of the oldest town in the yangtze basin. it is very beautiful. i believe his dad will have a wonderful time snapping photo after photo of the place. hopefully shaun will be more willing to pose & we'll have more pictures to see. ^^

a short intro from wiki:
Suzhou (simplified Chinese: 苏州) is a city on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and on the shores of Lake Taihu in the province of Jiangsu, China. The city is renowned for its beautiful stone bridges, pagodas, and meticulously designed gardens which have contributed to its status as a great tourist attraction.

3rd day (7th dec)- shaun & family spent their 3rd day in china in ningbo. ningbo is one of the oldest cities in china, & the name ningbo: níng (宁) meaning serene, and bō (波) meaning waves, literally means tranquil waves. haha. interesting.the temperature gets higher slightly each day as the cold wind blows south. hmm, as there are 5 county-level satellite cities under ningbo's jurisdiction, i dunno where did shaun go to. oh, the 5 are namely Yuyao, Cixi, Fenghua, Ninghai and Xiangshan.

koped from wiki again:
Ningbo (simplified Chinese: 宁波) is a seaport with sub-provincial administrative status. The city has a population of 2,182,000 and is situated in northeastern Zhejiang province, China. Lying south of the Hangzhou Bay, and facing the East China Sea to the east, Ningbo borders Shaoxing to the west and Taizhou to the south, and is separated from Zhoushan by a narrow body of water.

4th day (8th dec)- shaun & family travelled from yiwu to hangzhou. yiwu is a small place. (which i have never heard of) haha. i think hangzhou is the main place today & they'll be spending the night there. hangzhou's west lake is VERY beautiful. it is also known for its longjing tea (for those of you out there who drink/like to drink chinese tea). i guess most probably they'll be visiting the ling yin temple & also the pagoda of the six harmonies. there's a story behind each of the pagoda ohkies! haha.
yiwu

short info about yiwu:
Yiwu (simplified Chinese: 义乌) is a city of about 1,000,000 people in central Zhejiang Province near the central eastern coast of the People's Republic of China. The city is famous for its small commodity trade and vibrant flea markets and is a regional tourist destination.

haha. & apparently, shaun misses the rain. although it felt like sauna the moment i stepped out of the plane. i kinda hope that the sun will come out, so that i can sun my winter clothes & keep them. hence keeping my house looking neater than it is now. haha. ohkay. shall keep my personal stuff out of shaun's blog. =p

hmm, i can only manage to give a brief intro on each place shaun went to. as to where he went to specifically in each city/state/province, we'll have to hear from the owner of this blog himself. haha. anyway, we await more updates from mr shaun ho tomorrow! yupps. that's all for today. baibai~
